For the dough:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1½ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled
  • 2¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1½ teaspoons cream of tartar
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt

For the cinnamon sugar mixture:

  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • 1½ tablespoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. For the dough: Add butter and sugar to a stand mixer bowl. Cream together until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla extract and melted chocolate. Mix on low until combined. In a separate bowl, whisk dry ingredients. Gradually add dry mix to butter mixture, mixing on low until combined. Chill dough for 2 hours.
  2. Baking the cookies: Preheat oven and line baking sheets. Mix cinnamon sugar. Roll dough into balls, coat in cinnamon sugar, and place on baking sheets. Bake, then coat warm cookies in remaining cinnamon sugar. Enjoy!
