Ingredients

Scale

For the Shrimp

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Creamy Garlic Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh thyme leaves (for garnish)

For the Mashed Potatoes

  • 2 lbs potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • ½ cup warm milk
  • ¼ cup butter
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Make the Mashed Potatoes Boil the cubed potatoes in salted water until fork-tender, about 15 minutes. Drain them and return to the pot. Mash with butter and warm milk until smooth and creamy. Season with salt to taste, then cover to keep warm.

Pro Tip: Warming the milk helps the mashed potatoes stay smooth and fluffy rather than gluey.

  2. Cook the Shrimp Toss the peeled and deveined shrimp with olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and cook the shrimp for 2–3 minutes per side until pink and just cooked through. Remove shrimp from the skillet and set aside.

Note: Don’t overcrowd the skillet. Cook in batches if needed to ensure even searing.

  3. Make the Creamy Garlic Sauce In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté minced garlic until fragrant (about 1 minute). Pour in heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer. Stir in Parmesan cheese and Dijon mustard if using. Season with salt and pepper, and let the sauce simmer for 3–5 minutes until slightly thickened.

Optional Add-Ons: A splash of white wine or a pinch of red chili flakes will elevate the sauce even more.

  4. Assemble the Dish Spoon mashed potatoes onto each plate. Top with a generous helping of shrimp. Pour the creamy garlic sauce over the top, and garnish with fresh thyme leaves.

Serving Suggestion: Serve immediately while everything is warm and creamy for best results.

Notes

  • Ensure shrimp is cooked just until pink to prevent overcooking.
  • Adjust salt and pepper to suit your taste preferences.
  • Experiment with additional herbs or spices for a personalized touch.
