Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (4.5 ounces)
  • 1 stick unsalted butter (4 ounces)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 large eggs, whisked
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar

Cinnamon Sugar Coating

  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder

Nutella Dip

  • 1/2 cup melted Nutella, warmed until runny

For Frying

  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Nutella and Dough Ingredients: Begin by melting the Nutella until it is pourable and smooth, then set it aside for later serving. In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of water, 1 stick of unsalted butter, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar. Bring this mixture to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Form the Dough: Once the mixture is boiling, remove the saucepan from the heat and immediately stir in 1 cup of all-purpose flour. Stir vigorously until a smooth ball of dough forms. Allow the dough to cool for about 5 minutes. After cooling, add the whisked eggs to the dough one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition until the dough becomes smooth and slightly sticky.
  3. Prepare the Cinnamon Sugar Coating: In a small bowl, mix together 1/2 cup white sugar with 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Set this mixture aside to coat the churros after frying.
  4. Heat the Oil: Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C). It’s important to maintain this temperature for even cooking and a crispy finish.
  5. Pipe and Fry the Churros: Transfer the dough into a piping bag fitted with a large star-shaped tip. Carefully pipe 4-6 inch long strips of dough directly into the hot oil, using scissors to cut each piece. Fry the churros for about 2-3 minutes per side or until they turn golden brown and crisp.
  6. Coat and Serve: Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried churros from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil. While still warm, roll each churro in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat evenly. Serve immediately with the warm melted Nutella for dipping and enjoy your delicious nutty churro bites!

Notes

  • Ensure the oil stays at 350°F for perfect frying and texture.
  • For best results, use fresh cinnamon for the coating.
  • If you don’t have a piping bag, use a sturdy plastic bag with a corner cut off.
  • Serve churros warm for the best taste and texture.
  • You can substitute Nutella with any chocolate hazelnut spread or melted chocolate of choice.
